Gosh, how very exciting. I took UniM to an auction house yesterday, and spotted a lovely accordion for £175. I suddenly knew I had to have an accordion but I also knew that given all my recent purchases, she would never allow me to spend so much. Then I spotted another in a state of disrepair. Price tag: £20. Problem solved.
She's out all day today so I'm going to restore it. And I'll be videoing the process, so watch this space.
I thought it would be a simple job to find out all about it but a google search has revealed alomst nothing. Soberano accordions were made in Germany by Gustav Schlott in Sachsenberg-Georgenthal, Germany, and the company was founded some time before 1925 but that's all I know so far
The shop which imported this one went out of business in 1949
Which means mine is at least 64 years old and perhaps 88 or older. I've joined an accordion forum to find out more.
